He was cabin boy in the Merchant Marines when the pirates boarded the ship. Given the choice to join them or walk the plank, he chose to save his life. The work was brutal as were the pirates though he served them dutifully for years. Never did a day go by that he didn't fear for his life so, when his captors made landfall, he made his escape. Though he chose to live out his days on dry land, the sea never ceased to call his name.
This 100-year-old cedar chest was a gift from James the Pirate to his daughter, who passed it down to her daughter, who passed it down to her daughter, who passed it down to her daughter where it then landed in our hands. Broken and battered from years of mistreatment and neglect we repaired the legs, cut out new mouldings, shined up the brass on the corners and replaced the brass tacks. Then we added a few coats of polyurethane to bring this beauty back to life.
